Elmes in command at Royal Oaks Invitational

Leads by 6 going into final round

Riley Elmes of Lake Oswego shot a 5-under-par 67 Saturday for a six-shot lead after two rounds of the Royal Oaks Invitational in Vancouver.

Elmes, who just completed his senior year on the Loyola Marymount men’s golf team, made seven birdies including three on the last four holes for a 9-under 135 total.

The leader after the first round had a rough start to his second round with bogeys on the No. 2 and 3 holes, but recovered with two birdies before making the turn.

Mark Strickland of Everett, a 2018 U.S. Mid-Amateur qualifier, is tied for second place at 3-under after a round of 1-under 71. He shared the spot with Oregon State golfer Carson Barry, who had a 2-under 70 on Saturday.

Korban Romano, Derek Baade and Bjorn Bjorke were in a three-way tie for fourth at 2-under.

Behind that trio is Ben Itterman and Noah Yano, both at 1-under.

The final round gets under way at 7:30 a.m. today with the leaders set to tee off at 2:27 p.m.
