What kind of weather is headed our way this weekend? Check out our local weather coverage.

Here are some of the top stories of the week:

Homeless families find RV parks more affordable living option

WOODLAND — Valerie Guerra, 34, lives in an RV park, but she considers herself and her family to be homeless. Lewis River RV Park, located next to the river and a golf course, operates more like a campground. It’s an easier entry point for low-income families with older RVs that may not be allowed in costlier RV parks.

Guerra said there have been issues at the park around clean water, the septic system and electricity, and the family buys all of its drinking water. (Carole Harrison, deputy director of Cowlitz County Health & Human Services Departments, said there are no open investigations or complaints related to Lewis River RV Park.)

Mountain View teacher resigns over sexually explicit emails

A Mountain View High School teacher resigned last month after he allegedly exchanged sexually explicit emails with a student.

Jacob Sherman, a physics teacher at the Evergreen Public Schools campus, was placed on administrative leave with pay on May 22 after a student “brought forward inappropriate email exchanges between” themselves and Sherman, according to a letter the district sent to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Sherman submitted his resignation on May 30.

Washougal man arrested after allegedly stabbing, killing wife

WASHOUGAL — A 56-year-old Washougal man is due in Clark County Superior Court on Wednesday morning in the stabbing death of his wife.

Robert W. Burdick called 911 at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday from an apartment complex in the 600 block of West Lookout Ridge Drive. He said he was armed with butcher knives and was holding his wife hostage in their home, according to a Washougal Police Department news release.

HomeTown Buffet closes Vancouver restaurant

The Vancouver HomeTown Buffet restaurant closed permanently on Monday, and its remaining assets are to be auctioned this week. The former restaurant was located at 7809-B N.E. Vancouver Plaza Drive. As of Tuesday afternoon, the local restaurant’s phone line disconnects after one ring, and the location is no longer listed on the parent company’s directory of locations.

Chick-fil-A, Five Guys bound for Vancouver Mall

Chick-fil-A and Five Guys appear set to join the lineup of restaurants at the Vancouver Mall.

The two fast casual brands are listed in a leasing brochure posted on the website of mall owner Centennial Real Estate, with both restaurants described as “coming soon.”
