For the first time since 1996, the Mountain View girls soccer team has reached the state quarterfinals.

Mountain View beat Marysville Getchell 2-0 on Tuesday in the first round of the 3A state playoffs.

Ellie White scored in the first half and Olivia Fothergill added a second-half goal. Waverly Iverson had five saves in goal.

Mountain View (16-4-0) earned the victory after traveling approximately 200 miles north.

“It’s difficult going on the road, especially all the way to Marysville,” Mountain View coach Dustin Johnson said. “They were super aggressive and came at us with high pressure. But the girls stuck to the game plan.”

Mountain View will be at home to face either Central Kitsap or Seattle Prep, likely on Saturday. It will mark just the third time Mountain View has reached the state quarterfinals.
