A man died Tuesday night after being struck by a car while crossing the street in east Vancouver.

Police, fire and medical crews responded at 8:21 p.m. to the intersection of Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard and Northeast Chkalov Drive. They found a man in a northbound crosswalk who had been hit by a car driving east, Vancouver Fire spokesman Joe Hudson said.

The man was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, but the Vancouver Police Department reported shortly after 11 p.m. that the man had died.

Vancouver police shut down the eastbound lanes on Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard near the intersection during an investigation of the incident, Hudson said. Police said the driver of the vehicle was cooperating and that the crash was being investigated by the Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit.
