David Ruiz, the medical director of PeaceHealth’s Family Medicine of Southwest Washington Clinic, earned a Bravo Award from the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber. The organization, which presents the awards annually, recognized Ruiz for his work in improving the health of the Latino community. Raised in Tucson, Ariz., Ruiz is bicultural and bilingual, and he was an original member of the first youth mariachi in the United States, according to a news release. He relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 1994, joining PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. He has served as the director of the Family Medicine of Southwest Washington clinic for 25 years. The clinic focuses on underserved populations, especially the Spanish-speaking community.

The top nominees for the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Business and Leadership Awards were recently announced. They include:

• Community Champion Award Finalists: Casey Wyckoff, LSW Architects; Marcy Sprecher, Rock Solid Teen Center; and Corwin Beverage.

• Community Statesman Award Finalists: Lynda Wilson, state senator; Anne McEnerny-Ogle, mayor of Vancouver; and state Rep. Paul Harris, R-Vancouver.

• John S. McKibbin Leadership Legacy Award finalists: Arch Miller, Air & Hospitality Academy, retired; Linda Glover, Divine Consign and Vancouver City Council; and Mike Bomar, Port of Vancouver.

• Start-Up to Watch Award Finalists: The Diner Vancouver; WellHaven Pet Health; and Wolf Industries Inc.

• Small Business of the Year Award Finalists: Nom Nom Restaurant & Bar; Reid Business Services; and Pacific Perks.

• Large Business of the Year Award Finalists: Ginn Group; MAJ Development; and Invest West Management.

Winners will be announced at the chamber’s annual recognition ceremony, Set Sail for Success, starting at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. Find out more at vancouverusa.com.

Kevin Hudson was hired by Community Home Health & Hospice as a hospice administrator. He will be responsible for management, clinical outcomes and performance of the overall program.
