Letter: Show some pride, don’t litter

By Elsie Akerson, Vancouver

It is encouraging that a few more recent letters to the editor have addressed the problem we have with garbage littering our roadways. I’ve been complaining about this for years. It just seems to get worse all the time as our population grows.

I do not think it is right to expect law-abiding citizens to pick up someone else’s trash. I do not think it is right for the city and/or county to spend thousands of dollars to pick up road garbage. Surely that money could be better spent. Or perhaps some of that money could go toward an advertising campaign, saying it’s not OK to throw out your trash on the road.

We should all take pride in our environment. This garbage on the roads is ruining our once beautiful community. Perhaps Vancouver’s new Public Arts Panel should tackle this problem.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
