Letter: Know ovarian cancer symptoms

By John Parry, Ridgefield
Published: December 5, 2020, 6:00am

Young women like Josie Abbott give hope to improving the odds of women beating ovarian cancer (“Be aware of ovarian cancer,” Our Readers’ View, Dec. 3). My wife died from this cancer 30 months after her diagnosis. The only thing she and I would add to Josie’s message is all women need to learn the symptoms of ovarian cancer and don’t take being told you have IBS at face value; the symptoms overlap. There is a test for a protein marker, CA125, which could cause the doctor to look beyond IBS symptoms. The earlier the diagnosis the greater the chance of beating this cancer.
