With the season on the line, Hockinson’s Ellie Ritter went to the line to shoot three free throws down two with 0.6 seconds left.

Ritter hit all three, and the Hockinson girls basketball beat Rochester 65-64 in a 2A district play-in game Wednesday night in Rochester.

“It was nuts,” Hockinson coach Damon Roche said. “Ellie had ice in her veins. It was so loud in there, and she hit all three free throws.”

The Hawks actually erased a five-point deficit in the final 34 seconds to win.

Down three, the Hawks fouled, but Rochester made both free throws to go up 64-59.

Hockinson converted a 3-pointer to make it 64-62, then got a stop on the defensive end.

“We called two plays on our last timeout,” Roche said. “I told the girls, if they get the chance, to go for the win. We were getting open shots all night. Ellie took a 3 and was fouled.”

Ritter buried all three free throws for the win.

Lillie Mueller hit two free throws — her only two points of the night — with six seconds left in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Ellie Ritter added five steals to her 25 points. Kylie Ritter had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Grace Brammer added 19 points.

But Roche especially credited the hard play by Addie Chappelle, who had seven points, seven rebounds and eight steals.

“The kid put so much pressure on the ball,” Roche said. “She worked a full-time job tonight.”

The Hawks (12-9) advance to play at Washougal on Friday to open the double-elimination portion of the 2A district tournament.
