EAST VANCOUVER — Five local schools recently received $3,160 in donations of instruments and accessories, thanks to the third annual Northwest Quartet Fest held in December at Kennedy Violins, 508 S.E. 117th Ave. “The goal of the event, in addition to a great day of music and fun, was to raise money for local school music programs,” according to a news release provided by Kennedy Violins. The event, featuring performances, hands-on stringed instrument activities, food and contests, raised $1,580 and was matched by the music shop, which sells stringed musical instruments, instrument rentals and lessons. So far, Vancouver School of Arts and Academics received bass and cello bows, while Heritage High School received violins. “They are actively involved in supporting music education and performance opportunities for young musicians in the community,” the release said.
