The Vancouver Police Department says there recently have been fatal overdoses believed to be tied to counterfeit oxycodone pills.

There have been several medical calls involving overdoses, some them resulting in death, of people ingesting the pills. Police believe the pills may be laced with fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid “responsible for an epidemic of overdose deaths within the United States,” according to a news release.

The counterfeit pills are being sold illicitly throughout Clark County, police said.

People should not take prescription medications that aren’t purchased from a pharmacy and prescribed by a doctor, police said.

Police shared a photo of legitimate oxycodone pills, which are round, blue, and have a capital M encased in a square on one side and “30” on the opposite side. They said the counterfeit pills have similar markings.
