Letter: Name could be divisive

By Terry McCann, Vancouver

Was Curt Holdt’s letter “Let’s all agree on a name” (Our Readers’ Views, Nov. 25) coming up with a single name for the roads between Vancouver and Ridgefield for real? First, the businesses and residences along the route would have to go to the trouble and expense of notifying everyone that sends them mail of the change in address. On the plus side, maybe less junk mail would arrive for a while.

Second, getting this “enlightening thoroughfare one name, one that we would all be proud of and one that would lend credence to the world we now live in” could be difficult. All of Curt’s suggestions strike at the heart of political division, not agreement or pride for a large number of people. BLM could stand for: Black or Blue Lives Matter, Bureau of Land Management or Mismanagement, Black Lab Male (my personal favorite), Beer Lovers Marathon or well over 100 other things, according to allacronyms.com. The other four suggestions would also further tear us apart. “Don Benton Parkway” — are you kidding me?
