Fire district raises funds for cancer patient

BRUSH PRAIRIE — Instead of “flipping pancakes” at their annual open house and pancake breakfast, firefighters at Fire District 3 held a fundraiser for Juliann Anderson, whose father, Jon Couture, is one of the district’s fire commissioners.

Firefighters already have raised more than $6,000, smashing the goal of $3,000.

According to a GoFundMe page, Anderson started to feel unwell and lost her appetite a few months ago. Ultimately, it was discovered she had stage 3 colon cancer.

“After having abdominal surgery in March to remove 12-15 inches of colon, two tumors and lymph nodes, she is currently undergoing six months of chemotherapy before another abdominal surgery (reconstructive) can be scheduled,” the page notes.

Couture previously worked as a volunteer firefighter at Fire District 3.

“For over 30 years he has been taking care of our community. And, now we want to help to take care of his daughter as she faces a tough challenge,” the GoFundMe page reads. Learn more at https://gofund.me/854476f2.
