Prep Highlights: Hughes leads Ridgefield boys past Fort Vancouver

Henry Hughes scored 25 points as Ridgefield boys basketball earned a 69-37 road win over Fort Vancouver on the first night of 2A Greater St. Helens League play.

Nathan Semlick added 18 points for the Spudders (2-1, 1-0).

Hughes scored 15 points during a 20-5 run that saw the Spudders open 27-14 lead in the first half.

“He’s a very gifted offensive player,” Ridgefield coach Jason Buffum said of Hughes. “He has put a lot of time into his game. He’s just got to let the game come to him and be the good all-around player he can be,”

Ridgefield also clamped down on defense, holding the Trappers to 12 field goals.

Fort Vancouver’s best offense came from outside the arc as the Trappers (0-2, 1-0) hit eight 3-pointers.

Kaeleb Cvitkovic led Fort with 15 points.

“We may not be where we want to be at the end of the season, but this is just where we’re starting,” Cvitkovich said. “We’re going to finish in a totally different place.”

Boys basketball

SETON CATHOLIC 66, CENTRALIA 62 — Jacob George scored 19 points and Dax Clifton and Westy Westrick each had 11 points as Seton picked up the non-league win on the road.

Seton scored 25 points in the fourth quarter and was 10 of 15 from the free-throw line to close out the game.

STEVENSON 60, LYLE 36 — Kacen Bach had 15 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to a non-league win.

Max Jenkins also had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for Stevenson (1-1).

Girls basketball

WASHOUGAL 68, SKYVIEW 40 — Jaiden Bea had a monster double-double with 27 points and 17 rebounds as the Beavers chewed up visiting Skyview in a non-league game.

Bea also made 5 of 7 3-point attempts. Savea Mansfield had 19 points, and Sam Mederos set a single-game school record with nine assists to go with five points.

A 25-5 second quarter helped Washougal (2-2) put the game out of reach.

Skyview was led in scoring by Rowyn Riley’s 12 points.

SETON CATHOLIC 56, EVERGREEN 24 — Maddie Willis scored 16 points, Cami Price grabbed 16 rebounds and the Cougars improved to 3-1 with a nonleague road win.

Leading 24-17 at halftime, Seton Catholic broke open the game by outscoring Evergreen 13-2 in the third quarter.

Ariel Busby scored 11 points to lead Evergreen (0-4).

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 46, DE LA SALLE NORTH (Ore.) 40 — Riley Philbrook scored 18 points to lead the Knights to a non-league win at home.

Laurel Quinn had a double-double (16 points, 13 rebounds) and Ella Zimmerman grabbed 11 rebounds for King’s Way.
