Prep roundup: La Center storms back to beat Tenino, 67-62

The La Center boys basketball picked up their first win of the season Saturday behind quite a comeback.

Down by 10 in the first half, La Center cut it to one after three quarters and used a 23-17 fourth quarter for a 67-62 victory at Tenino.

Austin Nixon had nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats (1-3), and Colby Hylton spread his points out for 15 as well.

Garrett Maunu had 11 points. He was 7 for 10 from the free-throw line.

Boys basketball

CAMAS 53, WESTVIEW (ORE.) 44 — Stephen Behil scored 12 points, and Jace VanVoorhis and Theo McMillan each scored 11 as the Papermakers defeated Westview of Beaverton, Ore., at the Moda Center in Portland.

Westview finished the first quarter with a 17-12 lead, and then Camas stormed back to take control with a 15-7 second quarter.

MARK MORRIS 57, W.F. WEST 45 — Mark Morris needed about 10 minutes of game time to adequately adjust to the Moda Center before putting the squeeze on W.F. West in a non-league contest. Mark Morris guard Kobe Parlin was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points.

Girls basketball

DALLAS (Ore.) 38, MOUNTAIN VIEW 34 — Playing with just five players because of contact tracing protocols, Mountain View was unable to recover from falling behind early in a non-league game at the Moda Center in Portland.

Dallas used a 15-5 edge in the second quarter to build a 27-15 lead.

Victoria Schneider scored 11 points to lead Mountain View.

LA CENTER 79, EVERGREEN 26 — Kylee Stephens scored 14 of her 23 points in the first quarter, and Gianna D’Emilio had 10 of her game-high 26 also in the first as the Wildcats won the non-league game on the road.

Alyse Webberley was also in double figures with 13 points for La Center (3-3).

Evergreen was led in scoring by Coraleigh Speer with 12.

COLUMBIA ADVENTIST 32, FORT VANCOUVER 19 — The Trappers cut their deficit to 10 with 3:05 left in the game, but never got closer in their nonleague loss to the 1B Kodiaks.

Avery Beem led Columbia Adventist with 6 points and Lauren Wegner and Kami Hart each had 5. Avery Rowe paced the Trappers, playing in their fourth game in five nights, with 6 points. She also reached double figures in rebounds for a second straight game.
