Letter: Preserve Lewis and Clark legacy

By Michael Schrader, Vancouver
Published: July 13, 2021, 6:00am

I see that a Lewis and Clark statue is being torn down in Virginia. If they read “The Journals of Lewis & Clark” by Bernard DeVoto, they would know that Lewis and Clark treated Indians and Blacks with more dignity and respect then most people did during that time period. The idiots that are tearing down statues of Lewis and Clark are not only stupid, they are sick with racial hate. How dare they disgrace two of the finest pioneers in American history? Racial hatred is disgusting and needs to stop.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
