A truck driver was critically injured early Sunday when his semitruck overturned on a freeway ramp in Vancouver, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

The crash was reported at 7:48 a.m. on the Interstate 205 ramp to westbound state Highway 14, according to a statement from the fire department.

Arriving crews found an unconscious man in the cab of the semi being cared for by an off-duty pararescueman from the Portland-based U.S. Air Force Reserve 304th Rescue Squadron and an off-duty Portland firefighter.

It took Vancouver fire crews 25 minutes to extricate the driver from the wreckage so he could be transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to the fire department statement.
