Heritage High School went to a familiar face to lead its boys basketball team.

Ashton Clark, a 2009 Heritage High graduate and currently a counselor at the school, has been hired as the head coach for the Timberwolves.

Clark previously served as interim head coach in 2018. Nathan Younger served as the interim coach this past season after Brian Childs stepped down shortly before the season.

Clark is a 2014 graduate of Eastern Washington, where he played football. He has been working on the coaching staffs of the football and basketball teams at Heritage for the past four years.

Heritage also hired another Heritage graduate as its new head coach for wrestling. Jake Thomas has been an assistant coach for the Heritage wrestling program the past six seasons. He succeeds Erik Gonzalez, who is leaving the program to move to Utah.

Gonzalez was also the athletic director at Heritage and will be replaced by Jason Castro. After a long career as a coach, Castro has served as the athletic director at Prairie since 2015.

In other coaching news, Woodland has hired Cameron Cox has its new girls soccer coach.

Cox was previously the girls head coach at Mountain View.

“Cameron’s success at Mountain View speaks for itself, and he aligns with our core values perfectly,” Woodland athletic director Paul Huddleston said. “He is a student of the game and brings a passion for soccer that will most definitely be contagious.”
