4A/3A GSHL football: Union 57, Heritage 21

Union quarterback Alex Gehrmann threw for 307 yards and five touchdowns in a 57-21 rout of Heritage in a 4A/3A GSHL football game on Thursday night at McKenzie Stadium.

The Titans scored on their first play from scrimmage and never let up, Gehrmann connecting with Jake Bowen on a post route over the middle of the defense for a 75-yard touchdown pass.

Gehrmann also had a 60-yard touchdown pass to running back Vinh Luong in the first quarter.

“Alex called the plays tonight,” Union coach Rory Rosenbach said. “I thought he did some really good things. It was a fun experience for him.

“I think (starting fast) was really important. I thought our guys did a really nice job of coming out fast. They were locked in, ready to go and set the tone early.”

Heritage’s LaDaimien McCord kept the Timberwolves in the game, returning an interception 75 yards for a touchdown at the end of the first half and hauling an 80-yard touchdown reception at the end of the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Titans offense.

Bowen finished with 128 receiving yards and two touchdowns for Union before leaving the game at halftime. Marques Cantu finished with a team-high 70 rushing yards.

Heritage’s Andre Cowley had a game-high 96 yards rushing and Kedyn Bolds punched in the only other touchdown for the Timberwolves, a 1-yard score in the second quarter.
