The Vancouver Public Schools board of directors on Tuesday signed off on the four mascot suggestions up for consideration to be Columbia River High School’s new mascot.

Captains, Rapids, Purple Tide and River, a no-mascot option, are the four options approved unanimously by board directors during Tuesday’s study session. The vote on a new mascot name now goes to the high school’s student body later this spring.

Also Tuesday, the board approved five names up for consideration for Minnehaha Elementary: Cedars, Mountains, Martens, Mammoths and Rapids.

In September, the board voted to retire the Chieftain name and mascot used by both Columbia River High and Minnehaha Elementary.
