Prep roundup: Kelso knocks out previously undefeated Auburn Riverside

Kelso’s rushing attack and a big defensive effort helped the Hilanders to a 41-21 road win over Auburn Riverside in the 3A state preliminary round of the football playoffs.

Kelso (8-2) advances to the first round of the 3A state playoffs and will learn their opponent on Sunday.

Conner Noah rushed 20 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns, and Judah Calixte had 121 yards on 16 carries and two TDs as the Hilanders racked up 322 rushing yards.

Auburn Riverside (7-1) was held to 58 yards rushing and 277 yards of offense.

2A district football

TUMWATER 62, COLUMBIA RIVER 14 — The host Thunderbirds rushed out to a 27-0 lead after the first quarter and 48-0 at halftime on their way to a 2A district crossover victory over the Rapids to advance to the Class 2A state playoffs.

The Rapids got two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Their season ends at 3-7 after qualifying for the postseason as the 2A GSHL’s No. 4 seed.

Nonleague football

PRAIRIE 40, BATTLE GROUND 7 — The Falcons ended their season with a victory at District Stadium.

2A GSHL volleyball

Woodland earned the 2A Greater St. Helens League No. 5 seed by sweeping Washougal 3-0 in a league tiebreaker match. Scores were 25-23, 25-20, 25-16.

Leanna Russell had a double-double for Woodland with 22 digs and 10 kills. Kristina Janosikova led with 21 assists, and Liz Hurn had a team-high 28 digs.

Woodland advances to host W.F. West at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a spot in the first round of the 2A district tournament against top seed Columbia River.
