Prep roundup: Union sends six swimmers state

Union came away as the meet champion at the 4A District 4-8 meet in Kelso and will be sending six swimmers to state.

Union won the 200-yard medley relay with a state qualifying time of 1:53.25, and also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.01. They also won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:44.01, advancing to state.

Union won the team title 299-270 over Camas.

Annette Chang posted two state qualifying times in winning the 50 free (24.57 ) and 100 free (53.89).

Jean Lin, junior, swam two state times by allocation. She had a 2:20.79 in the 200 individual medley and a 1:12.34 in the 100 breaststroke.

Joli Fong had a time of 1:04.17 in the 100 backstroke and is also advancing to state.

Battle Ground’s Nina Uchtman won the 200 freestyle (2:05.30) and 100 backstroke (1:03.60). Camas’ Campbell Deringer won the 200 individual medley (2:17.77) and the 100 breastroke (1:07.91). Camas also advanced Sophia Wade (100 free) and Lila McGeachy (500 free) to state.

Aubrey Horner won two events in helping Mountain View place second in the 3A District 4-8 meet at Kelso.

Horner won the 200 individual medley (2:17.38) and the 100 breastroke (1:09.41), as Mountain View finished second to Cheney 237-180. Mountain View also won the 200 medley relay and qualified for state in the 200 free relay.

Also advancing to state were Mountain View’s Madison Wick (50 free) and Kelso’s Angie Eugenis (100 free).

1A district volleyball

La Center clinched its first berth to state since 2018 by placing third.

The Wildcats swept Columbia-White Salmon and then swept Montesano to get the state berth.

Ella Schoene had a combined 40 kills and 25 digs in La Center’s two matches.

1A district girls soccer

Shaela Bradley scored both goals for La Center in the first half as the Wildcats held on to beat Montesano 2-1 and win the district title and a top seed to the state tournament.

State tournament pairings will be announced Sunday by the WIAA.
