Letter: Take care of social ills

Re: “An American embarrassment” (Our Readers’ Views, Nov. 27): The biggest embarrassment is that there are people who still buy the MAGA hype. Robert Kerr’s criticism of former President Carter reminds me of Trump’s criticism of the late John McCain. President Carter has remained engaged and used his position to contribute, not tear down, to the betterment of society, from negotiating for world peace to building houses with Habitat for Humanity.

Has Trump ever lifted a hammer? The only thing I’ve heard from Trump since losing the election is complaints. “Socialistic pork” is what Kerr calls “Building Back Better.” We all know that our infrastructure needs attention and investment. It seemed to be totally neglected during the turmoil of the Trump years. I really don’t care what you call it, we need to start taking care of the social ills that are facing this country.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
