Prep highlights: Big efforts lead Woodland volleyball

It was a big night all around for the Woodland volleyball team as the Beavers beat Washougal 3-1 in a 2A Greater St. Helens League match Wednesday.

Scores were 25-22, 13-25, 25-19, 25-23.

Leanna Russell led the Beavers with 11 kills and 20 digs. Kristina Janosikova had 22 assists, to go with eight kills and eight digs.

Defense was solid as well. Liz Hurn made 30 digs, and Brezy Summers added 12 digs.

Also, Tessa Traffie had six aces and four kills.

Stars of the day

  • Logan Bigelow, Prairie boys cross country, won the 5,000-meter race at Frontier Middle School with a season-best time of 16:17 to help lead the Falcons to a win over Skyview and Heritage.
  • Annie Anderson, Prairie girls cross country, led a 1-2-3-4 Falcons finish on the 5,000-meter course at Frontier Middle School with a time of 20:50 and Prairie beat Skyview 20-35.
  • Joseph Blanshan, La Center boys cross country, won the 3-mile race by about 42 seconds at Columbia High School in White Salmon with a time of 15:53.81 in a Trico League meet.
  • Alexis Leone, Seton Catholic girls cross country, led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Cougars in a Trico League meet victory at White Salmon. Leone’s time on the 3-mile course was 17:56.92.
  • Maggie Tumelty, Union slowpitch softball, went 3 for 3 with a double, two home runs including a grand slam, and had seven RBI and scored three runs in an 18-0 victory over Camas.
