Cross country: Alexis Leone, Seton Catholic girls capture wins at 1A quad-district meet

Alexis Leone and Lara Carrion kept the Seton Catholic girls cross country team on its path toward a 1A state team title by winning the District 1-4 meet Saturday at South Whidbey High School.

Leone was the individual champion, winning in 18 minutes, 40 seconds. Carrion placed third in 19:43, as Seton outdistanced The Bush School for the team title 94-128. Seton’s Sarah Cordova (eighth, 20:22) and Avery Garrison (ninth, 20:26) also finished in the top 10.

Lauren Fox was 19th in 20:46 to help La Center place third overall and clinch a team berth to state, along with Emily Rosenkranz (20th, 20:48) and Makayla Hubler (28th, 21:34).

Earning individual berths were Ella Zimmerman of Columbia-White Salmon (12th, 20:33) and Castle Rock’s Kaitlyn Meyer (23rd, 21:11).

4A BI-DISTRICT: Skyview placed third and Camas was fifth, both earning team berths to state at the bi-district meet in Tacoma.

Evelyn Reed (12th, 19:28), Lauren Amato (20th, 20:03) and Ava Logue (34th, 20:49) led Skyview. Gracie Buzzell was second overall (18:38) for Camas. Natalie Peddie (16th, 19:41), Alyson Robertson (29th, 20:21) and Bethany McKinstry (36th, 20:51) also helped the Papermakers.

3A BI-DISTRICT: Evergreen’s Claire Rogge was the top local finisher at Chambers Bay, placing 22nd overall in 20:11.

Also earning individual state berths were Mountain View’s Phebe Wilson (23rd, 20:15), Morgan Geddry (39th, 20:57), and Prairie’s Annie Anderson (3rd, 20:43).

2B/1B DISTRICT: Isabella Spencer placed third overall in Rainier (20:49) to lead Stevenson to a district team title. The Bulldogs tied Rainier with 38 points, but Stevenson’s No. 6 runner Abrielle Owens gave the Bulldogs the title.

Sofia Spencer was eighth for Stevenson in 22:45. Cedar Tree Christian’s Suzie Johnson was second overall in 19:59 to clinch an individual state berth.

Boys

4A BI-DISTRICT: Hayden Reich placed 14th overall in 16:56 to help Camas qualify for the state meet with a sixth-place finish at Chambers Bay in Tacoma. James Puffer placed 21st in 17:08, and Luke Tupper was 32nd in 17:23.

Battle Ground’s Ben Gamblin earned an individual trip to state by placing 35th in 17:24.

3A BI-DISTRICT: Mountain View’s Branden Chou was the top local finisher at Chambers Bay, placing 20th in 16:57 to earn a state berth.

Also advancing to state were Kelso’s Giovannie Lopez (41st, 17:45) and Jake Beck (48th, 17:51), Prairie’s Logan Bigelow (31st, 17:19) and Ethan Pederson (45th, 17:49) and Evergreen’s Lorenzo Anguiano (47th, 17:51).

2B/1B DISTRICT: Timothy Bradshaw placed third overall in Rainier (17:37) to lead Cedar Tree Classical Christian to the district title. Cedar Tree scored 93 points to beat out Northwest Christian of Lacey with 105. Cedar Tree’s Micah Stewart placed 12th in 18:10.
