Prep highlights: Columbia River gets key 2A GSHL baseball win over Ridgefield

Sam Boyle and Chris Parkin combined on a four-hit shutout as Columbia River beat Ridgefield 5-0 in a pivotal 2A Greater St. Helens League baseball game on Friday.

The win allowed Columbia River to keep pace with the frontrunners in the league, improving its league mark to 4-2. Ridgefield fell to 3-3.

Adam Deeney reached on an error and came around to score on a passed ball to give River an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning.

Boyle and Parkin kept it that way until the Rapids broke through for four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kaden MacDonald’s single made it 2-0. Parkin scored on a wild pitch, MacDonald scored on a double steal and Cole Backlund scored on a wild pitch.

Boyle gave up two hits and struck out nine in four innings. Parkin gave up two hits with two strikeouts in three innings.

Stars of the day

  • Emily Foytack, Mark Morris softball, went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBI in the Monarchs’ 22-6 win at Washougal.
  • Jade Hayslip, Prairie softball, stuck out 11 over five innings and went 4 for 4 with a run, double and six RBI in a 21-1 win over Hockinson.
  • John Charles and Tristan Maldonado, Hockinson boys soccer, each scored two goals in the Hawks’ 4-2 2A Greater St. Helens League win at Mark Morris.
  • Enzo Oliverio, Hockinson boys track, won the 100 (11.23) and 200 (23.16) in a meet at Washougal.
  • Kobe Parlin, Mark Morris boys track, won the 110 hurdles (16.32) and 300 hurdles (45.13) in a meet at Washougal.
  • Erica Snyder, Mark Morris girls track, won the 100 hurdles (17.35), long jump (15-4) and triple jump (33-8.5) in a meet at Washougal.
  • Emma Fisher, Mark Morris girls track, won the 100 (12.95), 200 (27.76) and the 300 hurdles (50.28) in a meet at Washougal.
  • Leanna Russell, Woodland softball, went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and 5 RBI in a 20-1 win over Fort Vancouver.
  • Ainsleigh Utter, Woodland softball, went 3 for 3 with a double, triple, home run and two RBI in a win over Fort.
  • Chanz Flores, Hudson’s Bay baseball, held Fort Vancouver to one run on six hits over seven innings and delivers an RBI triple in a 3-1 win over the Trappers.
  • Branson Castleberry, La Center baseball, went 3 for 3 with two runs, two doubles and an RBI in a 12-2 win over Hockinson.
  • Noah Myers, King’s Way Christian baseball, pitched five innings, allowing one earned run and  striking out seven in a 11-2 win over Columbia-White Salmon as the Knights improved to 3-0 in the Trico League.
  • Dax Clifton, Seton Catholic baseball, threw five shutout innings, striking out 10 and added a two-run double in a 16-0 win over Castle Rock as the Cougars improved to 3-0 in the Trico League.
  • Sam McKee, Washougal baseball, went 2 for 3 with two runs, two doubles and two RBI in a 16-1 win over Woodland.
