CENTRALIA — The Cowlitz County Republican Party conducted a straw poll from April 12 to April 23.

From that poll, Yacolt candidate Joe Kent was favored.

The unofficial vote was meant to gauge the interests of Republican voters in Cowlitz County, but all registered voters in the 3rd Congressional District were allowed to participate in the poll.

Voters chose between incumbent congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler and Republican candidates Kent, Heidi St. John, Leslie French, Matthew Overton and Vicki Kraft.

No votes were cast for French or Overton. Just three people voted for Kraft, all of whom were from outside Cowlitz County.

There were four votes for Herrera Beutler, three of which were from the county. Thirty-seven people voted for St. John, with 28 of those hailing from Cowlitz County. For Joe Kent, there were 297 total votes, with 160 of those from Cowlitz County.
