Letter: Democrats must speak up

Has the Democratic Party abandoned Washington’s 3rd Congressional District? It is no secret when traveling north of The Columbian, that our streets are dominated by signs from Republican candidates. If they never sent out a voters’ guide, nobody would even know that there were Democrats to consider.

The Democratic Party must think that we are either a lost cause or less important than other districts in the state. They have surrendered those in Southwest Washington seeking change to have to vote for either the incumbent, Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, or a danger to our democracy, Joe Kent. I am tired of being forgotten and thrown away; Democrats and liberals must do better if we have any hopes of protecting Southwest Washington’s values.

If Democrats were willing to adjust their messaging and strategy, we could have a chance. With all that is at stake (abortion rights, same-sex and interracial marriage, rights to privacy), we need to see action from the Washington State Democratic Party.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
