Approximately 100 broken and cracked concrete panels in both directions of Interstate 205 and on southbound Interstate 5 will be replaced by a Washington State Department of Transportation contractor, starting Wednesday.

The $7 million project will cause single and double-lane closures on both freeways between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. and is scheduled for completion this fall.

Panel replacement will occur between Northeast 179th Street and the I-5/I-205 split on southbound I-5 and between the Oregon-Washington state line near the state Highway 14 interchange to the I-5/I-205 split on I-205.

Travelers should expect intermittent on- and off-ramp closures and reduced speed limits through the work zones in addition to lane closures in construction areas.
