Boys basketball: Mountain View tops Prairie to improve to 3-0

Heritage rallies to improve to 4-0

Mountain View got hot in the second half and pulled away for 78-59 win in a 3A Greater St Helens League game on Tuesday.

Isaiah Vargas scored a game-high 28 points for Mountain View (3-0, 2-0 3A GSHL), and Jacob Martin had 18 for the Thunder, who outscored Prairie 43-27 in the second half.

Prairie, which led 35-32 at the half, was led in scoring by Alex Juhl’s 15 points and Brendan Carter had 10.

UNION 77, EVERGREEN 45 — Yanni Fassillis led four Titans in double figures with 20 points as the Titans pulled away from shorthanded Evergreen.

Tucker Dunseth scored 16 points, Kody Holcomb had 15 and Josiah Baldassare added 12 for the Titans (3-1).

Damarien Walden had 14 to lead the Plainsmen (1-2), who were missed two starters who were out sick.

HERITAGE 72, HOOD RIVER VALLEY (ORE.) 70 — The Timberwolves recovered from being down 17-7 after the first quarter and 37-30 at the half to remain perfect on the season.

Heritage (4-0) was within 50-49 after the third quarter and got points from six different players in the fourth quarter.

Jose Zacarias led the Timberwolves with 20 points, Vernon Onick had 14, Quincy Gill 12 and Jo’siah Osburn 10.

STEVENSON 59, LYLE 15 — Jordan Waymire scored 15 points and Kacen Bach added 11 points as the Bulldogs cruised to a win in their season opener.

CASTLE ROCK 47, MONTESANO 37 — Lane Partridge scored 14 points and Trystin Marin added 12 as Castle Rock used a big second quarter to earn a win in its season opener.

The Rockets used an 18-5 advantage in the second half to take a 24-14 halftime lead. After Montesano closed the deficit to five after the third quarter, the Rockets sealed the win in the fourth with Partridge scoring eight points.

SETON CATHOLIC 53, VALLEY CATHOLIC 49 — Seton Catholic rallied in the fourth quarter for a non-league victory at Beaverton, Ore.

Down 40-35 to start the fourth quarter, Seton finished the game going 9 for 15 from the free-throw line and holding Valley Catholic to three field goals.

Jack Jenniges led Seton in scoring with 16 points. Brady Angelo added 11 and Lance Lee 10.

WASHOUGAL 78, PORTLAND WALDORF 52 — Sam Evers scored 17 points, Holden Bea had 13 points and Mather Minnis added 12 as the Panthers won a non-league home game.
