Washington gas prices continued to drop throughout November and into December, with one county seeing average prices under $4 per gallon. Washington still has the fourth-highest gas prices in the country.

The price of gas, on average, has decreased by almost 40 cents in the last month in the United States, at $3.40 a gallon compared to $3.79 in November, according to the American Automobile Association.

Washington’s average cost of gas per gallon is now $4.31 a gallon, a more than 50-cent decrease compared to November’s average of $4.89 a gallon. In December 2021, gas averaged $3.87 a gallon in Washington, according to AAA.

Beginning in mid-June, Washington’s average gas prices by county began to decline, until taking a turn for the worse near the end of September. Between Sept. 20 and Oct. 9, average gas prices increased by 78 cents per gallon.

On Oct. 11, Washington’s average gas prices began to drop, decreasing by $1.07 a gallon between Oct. 11 and Dec. 5.

Although the decrease in the average price of gas in Washington is encouraging to many, the cost of gas still varies by county.

Skamania County has the highest price of gas, with an average of $4.93 per gallon. Meanwhile, Douglas County, in the center of the state, has the lowest average gas price at $3.97 a gallon — the only county with an average under $4.

Washington has the fourth-highest gas prices in the country after Hawaii, California and Nevada. Hawaii has the highest gas in the country, averaging $5.17 a gallon, according to AAA.
