Prep roundup: Fraley leads Kelso girls to first league title since 2005

R.A. Long secures No. 4 seed to 2A district with overtime win

Natalie Fraley had 27 points, six assists and five steals as Kelso clinched its first 3A Greater St. Helens League title since 2005 with a 68-37 win over Heritage in a 3A Greater St. Helens League girls basketball game on Monday.

Heritage battled hard for two quarters, trailing 33-22 at halftime. But the Hilanders’ conditioning and fast break paid off in the second half as Kelso pulled away.

Lexi Grumbois added 18 points, and Evermore Kaiser added 11 rebounds.

Keanna Salavea led Heritage with 18 points.

Girls basketball

WASHOUGAL 67, HOCKINSON 56 — On Senior Night, two seniors lead the way for Washougal in its regular-season finale.

Jaiden Bea had 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Savea Mansfield added 22 points for the Panthers.

R.A. LONG 68, MARK MORRIS 64, OT — R.A. Long clinched the No. 4 seed to the 2A district tournament with the win and will face Tumwater to in a first-round game on Friday.

Mark Morris will host Centralia on Wednesday in a district play-in game with the winner playing at Hudson’s Bay on Friday.

Boys basketball

EVERGREEN 68, SKYVIEW 64 — DJ Edmondson scored 19 of his 36 points in the third quarter to help rally Evergreen to a non-league win in a playoff tuneup for both teams.

Skyview opened the game hot, hitting 6 of 6 3-pointers in the first quarter. Demaree Collins hit 3 3-pointers in the opening quarter.

Skyview led 41-26 at hafltime.

But Evergreen’s full-court pressure produced results to help rally the Plainsmen, who took the lead with 5:30 left in the fourth quarter and did not surrender it.

Colton Looney had 19 points to lead Skyview, and Collins added 15.

HERITAGE 51, CENTENNIAL 50 — Nikki Scott came up with a last-second steal to help the Timberwolves preserve a non-league win in Gresham, Ore.
