Letter: What matters is what God says

Ronald Morrison, in his letter “Unwanted pregnancies are costly” (Our Readers’ Views, Feb. 15) makes the statement “Unwanted pregnancies, it is impossible to make a reasoned case in favor of them.” He asks fellow readers to “Put aside the religious and ethical debate” and concludes with “The reasonable and knowable fact remains, abortion saves lives!”

Although Morrison asks us to put aside the ethical debate, his argument is from his own ethical viewpoint. Even from a utilitarian or humanistic perspective, it is quite a statement to say the killing of an unborn child saves lives.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter what our opinions are, but what God says about the matter. The Bible tells us God made man and woman in His own image, so that gives every person significant value, including the unborn child. Pregnancy resource centers and some churches stand ready to help mothers and babies. Placing the child up for adoption may be an option.

“For You (God) formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well.” (Psalm 139:13-14)
