Bonnie Raitt ready to hit the road

SAN DIEGO — Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples are teaming up for a 2022 summer tour that will open July 19 in Cincinnati.

Billed as the “Just Like That …,” the tour takes its name from Raitt’s upcoming album, which is due out this spring. The tour will include performances in 28 cities across the nation and follows a spring tour by Raitt, without Staples, that begins March 28 in Modesto.

Raitt is due for two major honors this year. On March 2 she will receive Billboard magazine’s Icon Award in a public ceremony at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. She is also set to belatedly receive the Recording Academy’s 2021 Lifetime Achievement Grammy at an event that was pushed back from last year. The 2022 makeup date has not yet been announced.

Tickets for the general public for Raitt and Staples’ summer tour go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at ticketmaster.com.

As she has done in the past, Raitt will — in conjunction with The Guacamole Fund and her Green Highway campaign — donate $1 from every ticket purchased for her tour to local, regional and national grassroots organizations that focus on safe and sustainable energy, environmental protection, social justice, human rights, and blues and music education.

Raitt’s fall tour will begin Sept. 30 in Phoenix and conclude Nov. 9 in Clearwater, Fla. No ticket sale dates have been released yet for that leg of the tour.
