Letter: Vote to protect our country

Roy Schimelpfenig’s letter of concern about our country’s weak image comes about four years too late (“Weak president encourages enemies,” Our Readers’ Views, Feb. 17). While world diplomats agree that the U.S. has lost much of the prestige and respect in the world, that cycle began due to Trump’s open pandering to Putin and other world dictators. As he openly walked away from supporting our agreements and our allies, he alienated partnerships like NATO and set off a cascade of losses of carefully built agreements around the world.

The fact that in that short time Trump destroyed our security in ways that we will never recover should have raised more alarm for Republican citizens. If the most pertinent topic is the saber-rattling of Russia and China, it will take a united group of allies to balance the power in the U.S. favor. Stand up during the next two elections and vote to protect our country from being sold off for the power and personal interests of the Trump-led Republicans.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
