Beau Swett scored a game-high 18 points to help Woodland put some distance between the top four boys basketball teams in the 2A Greater St. Helens League and the bottom five as the Beavers beat Columbia River 43-37 on Saturday.

The Beavers (8-3, 6-2 2A GSHL) didn’t pull away until the final 31/2 minutes after River (4-10, 4-6) closed to within two points.

River had led by two at halftime, but was then outscored 11-5 in the third quarter.

“It just came down to shooting,” River coach David Long said. “We just didn’t make enough 3s. We had good looks with good shooters. Loved the effort.”

Alden Fay led the Rapids in scoring with 16 points.

HOCKINSON 63, FORT VANCOUVER 58 — Igor Povazhniuk scored 15 points and Daniel Federenko had 11 as the Hawks held off visiting Fort Vancouver.
