Vancouver police are investigating a Sunday evening shooting after finding a man suffering a gunshot wound inside a crashed vehicle in central Vancouver.

Police responded shortly after 8 p.m. to what was initially reported as a single-vehicle crash in the 6500 block of Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard, the police department said in a news release Monday.

Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle had a bullet hole in the window, and there was a 26-year-old man inside wounded, the news release states.

Officers rendered medical aid until the man was taken to an area hospital; police said he suffered critical injuries. Authorities have not released the man’s identity.

Detectives with the police department’s Major Crimes Unit and Safe Streets Task Force are investigating.
