For those people considering an electric vehicle, I recommend you rent one for a couple of weeks before you buy one.
I just had the experience of having an EV for two weeks and was very disappointed by the range, recharging and recharging time. There is also the challenge of availability of the chargers, which are not quite as ubiquitous as advertised. Further, the range in miles indicated on the dash does not take into account whether one is using the cabin A/C, nav screen, or recharging one’s phone. In the end an EV would work fine for running errands around town, but on a road trip of 200 miles each way it was really difficult to get it charged up above 80 percent at all, and very difficult to find a charger that would do 20 percent to 80 percent inside 90 minutes.
These are well-known issues; the manual makes it quite clear about these constraints. So I would recommend that you rent one before you buy one and take it on a road trip and see what you think.
As for me I will continue to run my car on an ICE — internal combustion engine.
