Fire officials with the Mount Adams Ranger District are planning to conduct a prescribed burn Oct. 12-16, if weather conditions allow.

The burn site is 6 miles north of Trout Lake and 4 miles south of the Mount Adams wilderness area within the Upper White Restoration area. The burn will result in visible smoke on the south side of Mount Adams.

In a press release Friday, officials said shorter days, elevated relative humidity, and recent rainfall in the burn area have helped create perfect prescribed burning conditions.

Prescribed fire signs will be posted in the area to increase public awareness. Traffic may be delayed on Forest Roads 8020, 8225, and 021 due to limited visibility caused by smoke and to keep the public at a safe distance from the burn areas.

Although not expected to travel farther, smoke may also be detected in Glenwood and Trout Lake.

The Upper White Salmon Restoration prescribed fire project calls for understory burning with the intent of creating a landscape more resistant and resilient to wildfire, insects, and disease.
