The public is encouraged to join local veterans on POW/MIA Day to honor service members who were prisoners of war or never returned home.

The event, hosted by the Community Military Appreciation Committee, is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sept. 16 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center, 15005 N.E. 65th St.

A keynote speech will be presented by Gwen Davis, whose brother, Harley Hall, was a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Other speakers include Lt. Col. Andrew Plassmeyer and Vancouver City Councilor Sarah Fox. There will also be a dove release, wreath laying and Missing Man Table ceremony.
