Hudson’s Bay offense hits high gear in 61-42 win over R.A. Long

Mateo Varona rushed for 234 yards and three touchdowns as Hudson’s Bay beat R.A. Long 61-42 on Friday at Kiggins Bowl.

Rafael Bauman added 148 rushing yards and two touchdowns as the Eagles racked up 585 yards of offense in their Class 2A Greater St. Helens League opener.

Varona had touchdown runs of 34, 30 and 11 yards. His third score put the Eagles ahead 47-20 in the third quarter.

Max Vanhoomisson returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to put the Eagles ahead 27-14.

Shaun Mize threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns for R.A. Long, but was intercepted four times. Lonnie Brown Jr. opened the game with a 70-yard kickoff return for a Lumberjacks touchdown.
