Union’s McKinley Ermshar is The Columbian 2022-23 Week 23 prep athlete of the week

Softball pitcher threw a 1-hit shutout of Battle Ground

Union softball player McKinley Ermshar is the The Columbian 2022-23 Week 23 high school athlete of the week.

Ermshar received 323 of the 843 votes cast to win the weekly honor.

Ermshar struck out 35 batters over 20.1 innings over three games, including a 1-hit shutout of Battle Ground.

Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.

Nominees are posted and voting begins each Monday and runs through Wednesday.

Here are the accomplishment of the other Week 23 nominees:

STEPHEN HAMMERGREN, MARK MORRIS BASEBALL: Hammergren struck out 10 over seven innings in a 9-1 win over Columbia River and went 5 for 11 with five runs and eight RBI over three games.

DAVARI GRAUER, LA CENTER TRACK AND FIELD: The senior ran the area’s fastest time of the season in the 100 meters (11.17 seconds) and helped La Center win the 400 relay at a meet at Castle Rock.

ALEXIS LEONE, SETON CATHOLIC TRACK AND FIELD: The junior ran 10:33.70 for 3,200 meters at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational, the second-fastest time in the state this season by a runner at any classification.

PABLO SANCHEZ BARBOSA, HERITAGE BOYS SOCCER: Sanchez Barbosa scored three goals and added one assist in two league wins for the Timberwolves.
