Letter: Fascism is showing

Regarding the Republican expulsion of representatives Justin Jones and Justin Pearson from the Tennessee Legislature, one notes the apparent racism displayed in this vote, especially as the third representative, Gloria Johnson, was not expelled. She is white.

There is, however, something far more troubling than this. When a government acts to control the populace and silence the voice of the opposition, that is the textbook definition of fascism. Coupled with increasing government control of school curricula, the banning of books and the demonization of marginalized groups, we are looking more and more like 1930s Germany. That frightens me.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
