She started 27 games last season, helping the Hornets reach the NCAA Tournament.
Like Sacramento State, North Carolina State was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last month.
A 2021 graduate of Heritage High School where she was a three-sport standout, Peneueta originally committed to Air Force in high school, but she was unable to gain medical clearance needed to enter the academy.
That led her to scramble late in the recruiting process for new college. Campbell quickly lured Peneueta to Sacramento for his first season as head coach.
When Campbell departed for TCU, NC State assistant coach Ashley Williams was the first coach to contact Peneueta after she entered the transfer portal. The two made a quick connection, drawing Peneueta to Raleigh.
“She definitely was a really big part of it,” Peneueta told Pack Pride of Williams. “From the first phone call we had, there was a strong connection there. It was almost automatic. I just had a feeling before taking the visit and I definitely am so looking forward to getting to play under her and the entire staff soon.”
