Clark County is working with an outside forensic investigation consultant to investigate an incident involving suspicious activity on the county’s network. Charles River Associates of Chicago is overseeing the forensic investigation.

The county’s information technology began investigating after the county was made aware of potentially suspicious activity on its network on April 21. County leadership determined there was an immediate need to obtain specialized forensic investigators to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

On Wednesday, the county council approved an emergency resolution following an executive session discussion to expedite repairs as needed.

“We take data security very seriously at Clark County,” Council Chair Karen Dill Bowerman said in a press release. “The information on the county servers belongs to the residents of this county, and it is vital that we protect the data and properly investigate any potentially suspicious activity on our network.”

County Manager Kathleen Otto said she was grateful for the information technology team’s tireless work over the weekend to investigate the incident.

“Their swift response and advice allowed us to quickly put in place measures to investigate and mitigate this situation,” Otto said in the release.
