Letter: Thanks for summer concerts

By Rory Bowman, Vancouver
Published: August 18, 2023, 6:00am

Huge congratulations to the city of Vancouver for another terrific series of summer concerts at Columbia Tech Center and downtown. These concerts are often a summer highlight, and a wonderful place to see and share in the diversity of our community.

I can appreciate why the city chose to try concerts on the full-sun sliver of grass at Waterfront Park, but after two years I think it is clear that the Esther Short Park location is better, and I hope to enjoy more of the 2024 series back in that larger, better-shaded space. Picnics are easier at Esther Short Park than on the waterfront, given the larger space. More shade makes Esther Short more accessible for our neighbors with health conditions, and the level ground is also better for those of us with mobility issues.

Thanks to our many generous sponsors and diverse artists, hardworking city workers and all others who helped make summer richer this year, and going forward. Vancouver’s summer concerts are a gem and treasure for the entire community.
