Myron Lawrence Memorial Tournament: Union’s fourth-quarter rally runs out of gas in loss to Puyallup

Titans and Mountain View will play for third place in JaQuan Thomas Bracket

A fourth-quarter comeback ran out of gas late for the Union boys basketball team as the Titans fell 62-53 to Puyallup on Thursday in the semifinals at the Myron Lawrence Memorial Tournament at Fort Vancouver.

Union will face Mountain View at 5:20 p.m. Friday for third-place in the JaQuan Thomas Bracket.

Puyallup got a 3-pointer followed by a steal and a layup in the final three seconds of the third quarter to take a 43-36 lead into the fourth quarter.

But the Titans rallied, tying the game at 50-50 on three free throws by Tucker Dunseth with 4:20 left.

Puyallup then put the game away by finishing with a 12-3 run.

Grayson Stanley led Union with 15 points, and Kody Holcomb added 15.

NORTH THURSTON 67, MOUNTAIN VIEW 43 — North Thurston took control with an early run and never led the Thunder get back into the game for a semifinal win in the JaQuan Thomas Bracket.

Mountain View came out hot, jumping to a 9-2 lead. But the Rams countered with a 15-0 run.

North Thurston stretched its lead to double digits midway through the second quarter, and the Thunder could not get closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Daniel Dolev led Mountain View with 12 points and Jack Johnson added 10.

BENSON 73, FORT VANCOUVER 49 — The Trappers will play for seventh place in the JaQuan Thomas Bracket when the Trappers face Weed (Calif.) at 10:40 a.m. Friday.

SUNNYSIDE 66, HUDSON’S BAY 31 — Bay’s offense struggled to get going in a semifinal loss to the Jameel Morton Bracket.

Jamahson Hicks led the Eagles with 12 points. Bay will face Kingston at 3:40 p.m. for third place.

SANDPOINT 54, HERITAGE 44 — Jose Zacarias scored 17 for the Timberwolves in consolation-round loss in the Jameel Morton Bracket.

Delorian Holmes added 11 for Heritage, which will face Columbia-White Salmon at 9 a.m. Friday for seventh place.
