Portland police are searching for a dark blue Mercedes van containing four show dogs stolen from a hotel on North Jantzen Beach Drive on Saturday morning.

According to police, the van was briefly left running in the hotel parking lot around 7:45 a.m. when someone jumped in the van and drove away. Four terriers were still in their crates in the van.

The missing dogs include three Scottish terriers, two of which are black and brown and one of which is all black; and a brown Cairn terrier. All four dogs weigh around 22 pounds.

The dogs’ owners were visiting from King County to attend the Rose City Classic Winter Dog Show being held at the Portland Expo Center.

The vehicle is a dark blue 2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris cargo van. While it does not have license plates, the van does have a temporary tag with the number E0768146 in the rear window. The license plate frames had light blue dealer placards from SOUNDFORD.COM in Renton.

The van also has a handicap placard and Rose City Dog Show parking pass in the front window.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the stolen van or dogs should call 911. Information that is not time sensitive can be emailed to crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov; refer to case number 23-19222.
