Deaf, hard of hearing school program ends at Fircrest Elementary School in Vancouver

Evergreen Public Schools staff, parents say neighborhood model doesn’t suit needs

Evergreen Public Schools is closing the deaf and hard of hearing program at Fircrest Elementary School next school year and moving its students to their respective neighborhood schools in the district.

Many teachers and parents with ties to the program said that the change came as a surprise, as Fircrest has maintained what they described as a special community for deaf and hard of hearing students for decades.
