A 72-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning after he called 911 to report he’d choked his 80-year-old wife to death in their home near Ridgefield.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded at 11:12 a.m. to the 19400 block of Northwest 61st Avenue. Wayne Leonetti told dispatchers that he’d just killed his wife, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Deputies contacted Leonetti outside of the house, and he was initially uncooperative. After a short standoff, deputies detained him, the sheriff’s office said.

When investigators went inside the house, they found a woman, who deputies identified as Alice Bolen, unresponsive. Despite medical aid from deputies, Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue and American Medical Response, Bolen was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was inside the house, the news release states.

Leonetti was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. He is scheduled to make a first appearance on the allegation Thursday afternoon in Clark County Superior Court.

The sheriff’s office said there does not appear to be a threat to the public.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating Bolen’s cause and manner of death.

This is the second domestic violence homicide the sheriff’s office has responded to in two days.
