Letter: Local railroad remains diligent

By Eric Temple, president, Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad, Medina
Published: November 24, 2023, 6:00am

I write in response to recent claims against the Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad’s activities in Chelatchie. Our construction adhered to best practices, prioritizing the protection of Chelatchie Creek. It is crucial to clarify that our operations did not block water, mitigating any impact on fish populations.

While acknowledging the concerns of upset neighbors, it is essential to recognize that disagreement does not equate to truth. Regrettably, this issue has been politicized by certain factions, making it imperative to sift through the noise and await a fair assessment of facts.

Our project’s entire goal was to safeguard Chelatchie Creek, and the accusations levied against us lack logical foundation. To those with an open mind, I urge patience until the completion of what appears to be a baseless witch hunt. Unraveling the truth amid the sea of misinformation is a task that demands time and diligence.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
